The Tib-Transformer is a low cost easy to fit solution for the correction of tibial torsion deformities. It's light weight open design makes this orthosis comfortable to wear without sacrificing function.
It works by flexing the knee to a ninety-degree angle. This feature allows us to isolate the torsional force directly at the proximal tibia. Previous efforts that attached to the shoes using torsion cables,
or bars that connected both feet, concentrated their force at the hip, far away from the source of the problem!
The open air design makes fitting the orthosis a breeze and wearing it comfortable. A simple posterior strut orienting the thigh and calf cuffs is simple to adjust with a screwdriver and automatically
positions the foot in the correct attitude for the maximum rotational tolerance. By starting the patient at neutral rotation and increasing the rotational force at even intervals correction can be quickly and permanently achieved.
The same great simplicity of design that makes the orthosis easy to fit also makes it inexpensive to purchase.
To determine the proper size, measure the distance from the posterior aspect of the thigh to the heel of the child's shoe with the knee flexed to ninety degrees:
Small is 5" to 7"
Large is 7" to 10"
